Sage Hit Low Series Ushers in the 2008 Football Season

Unbekownst to many collectors, although Sage did announce it on their site, the release date for Sage Hit Low Series was pushed up by a month, making it one of the earliest releases collectors have ever seen, and by far the first 2008 product released this season. The idea was certainly to get a one-up on competitors. As stated on Sage’s website at www.sa-ge.com, “That’s right, now collectors can obtain their favorite collegiate player in the 2008 professional draft, a month earlier than they ever could before.”

This is great news for the college collector, as the collecting season is already upon us. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for the top players in the class to show up, as the prime players out of this set of fifty cards - Jacob Hester, Joe Flacco, Steve Slaton, Brian Brohm and Jake Long, to name a few - are only appetizers for such main course players as Darren McFadden and Matt Ryan, who will be featured in the High Series in the near future.

Despite the early jump, however, 2008 Sage Hit is certainly not bucking any trends. So far, in the first three days of eBay sales since its release, boxes are going for an average of around $85.00, while the highest sale of a single was $51.00 for a Joe Flacco School Colors Gold Auto numbered out of 100. None of the Write Stuff Autographs limited to only 25 have closed on eBay yet, and those will be the chase cards from this set.

You can find a complete checklist for Sage Hit Low Series base and insert sets here: http://www.sa-ge.com/documents/93.html.

It is still early, and there is much more to come, but there are certainly a lot of happy collectors out there eager to get their hands on the first Brian Brohm and Jacob Hester releases. Plus, it just means that the rest of the 2008 releases are right around the corner.

  1. Where are the snoop rookies?!?

  2. Ahhhh, so that might explain why no DJ Hall stuff has popped up yet. Thanks for the info Brian

  3. personally, im not a huge fan of sage, and i think the early release is bad. i feel that while there is a stong college collector market, it is not as strong as the pro team collectors. as always, im sure the initial sales will be strong, as they are the first “certified” autos to hit the market. also i hate sticker autos. im sure ill get some press pass stuff, but not going to try to get sage.

  4. As a fan of the college products, I like SAGE, but I’m not sure that putting this product out this early does anything for me. Undoubtably, I’ll still buy a box or two just ’cause I like the product (sticker autos and all), bit I’m in no rush…
