White Plains Show Wrap Up

feature photo

My first White Plains Show dealer experience ended not with a bang but with interesting tales of Yankees of old. As with Saturday, traffic on Sunday was decent but sales were down. Much of that is due to my inventory (just getting into prospecting means I am behind the proverbial 8 ball), but also with conflict to the Sun Times Show in Chicago. Not having Beckett here, plus dealers choosing to be at Sun Times I think had a slightly more than marginal affect on overall show performance. I will say I enjoyed attending, and as with all shows, it went by too fast.

Probably the highlight, and simultaneous reflection, of my day came at the end of the show on Sunday. All the dealers in my quad booth were gone, Lisa had just departed for her flight home, and I was cleaning up in preparation for packing. Several of the old time Yankees decided to sit and stand around some chairs I had put out for people to look through my boxes after they finished their signings. They spoke of trying to get autographs from Joe DiMaggio for their families, friends; spring training stories; their experiences in the leagues of Puerto Rico (’this big fat man came in and said he was my roommate’); as well as amazing performances they saw by other future stars. It was an honest and frank conversation by four well spoken veterans reflecting on the past. Sadly, I did not know the first thing about any of them. I would have taken some photos for you but I did not want to interrupt their conversations. Speaking of photos, here are a couple pictures Rob managed to snag of the event on Saturday…

Well, sorry we didn’t have more pictures for you, we will do better next show. Look for reports in two weeks from the University of New Haven show.
