Service Record Set at Wimbledon
0-127 mph in less than 50 feet. That was what Venus Williams accomplished today.
In what has been a less than stellar showing of the Americans at Wimbledon, at least a new record for service speed by a female has been set.
Try to imagine hitting something coming at you at 127 miles per hour. But really, how fast is that? A Major League fastball tops out at what 104, and that’s coming from 60 feet and 6 inches. To be a valid serve, the tennis ball travels only 50 feet from the service line to the edge of the inbounds line.
I didn’t see if the serve ended in an ace or not, but good luck getting a decent return on something traveling at you that fast.
And I have no clue what is going on with the site, or when it will return.
