Price: $85.00

Breakdown: 2 Autographs per box. 10 packs per box - 46 cards per pack. Each Jumbo pack contains 41 Topps Football cards Plus 1 Brett Favre Collection, 1 NFL Dynasties Tribute, 1 Topps Armed Forces Fans of the Game, 2 Gold Foil Parallels, and 1 info card.

I look forward to Topps Football every year for two reasons: the plethora of rookies included in the set and, of course, the Rookie Premier Autos. This box certainly did not disappoint! It only took me my second pack till I got my first hit, a Jake Long Rookie Premier Auto Red-Ink variation!! I knew these would be short-printed, but didn’t realize till I got home and looked it up that all the red ink variations are short-printed to only 10!! At that point, everything else was gravy.

morelli-auto.jpgAmong the other hits were an Anthony Morelli autograph and a number of Gold Rookies numbered to 2008. Of course the packs were each loaded with members of this year’s rookie class. Just about every notable name was included, with the exception of Matt Ryan.

The insert sets have some nice designs. Once again Topps is celebrating Favre’s record-setting career with a continuation of the Flight to 420 set (this guy really doesn’t ever go away!). A nice touch is the Armed Forces Fan of the Game set which features military personnel in their uniform, and that individual’s favorite team. A number of greats are featured in the NFL Honor Roll, a set of NFL greats who served in the military. mcfaddenrc.jpg

Two notes about the set. First, apparently Topps is no longer using the hologram on the back of their autograph cards. Neither of the pulls from this box have it, and none of the examples currently on eBay which include a scan of the back have the hologram sticker.

Second, the shop owner at Triple Crown Trading in Naperville, Illinois, told me about a card a previous customer had pulled. He said it was a Rocky Bleier card, and inserted into the card was a Purple Heart medal. He was pretty certain it was a replica rather than the real thing, but that would be a neat card, certainly unique, and one I’ll have to keep an eye out for.

  1. the military patches are pretty cool, but some of the people busting wax over on the topps boards dont like them…they should be easy moves, especially the Purple Heart and/or Medal of Honor…i may bust a box at The National if they arent too expensive.

  2. Nice break and review! Congrats on the nice autos!

  3. Great Long pull. Not sure about the military involvement. Will probably split the card community in 2 over their opinions.

  4. Sadly my box had 0 autos…. not sure what happened at Topps.
