Panini Signs 5 NBA Draftees to Exclusive
On June 24th, Panini signed five of the top prospects from the 2009 NBA draft. While many know the Donruss brands best for their football products, in Janary The Panini Group signed an exclusive 5 year deal with the NBA and will begin producing Trading Cards, Stickers, and Albums beginning with the 2009/10 season. Blake Griffin, Tyler Hansbrough, Jordan Hill, Brandon Jennings and Hasheem Thabeet, all sought after draft picks, will be featured in the first new NBA product of the year, Prestige, due to release in October. The Panini Group subsequently purchased the Donruss Brand in March of this year, forming the new subsidiary, Panini America, Inc. It will be interesting to follow the fortunes of Panini America, especially as some of the sports brightest stars are under exclusive signing rights of Upper Deck, notably Michael Jordan, Lebron James, and Kevin Durant.
