Yes prop 8 is the bill that passed overturning court ruling that Gay people would have the right to be married.
I guess I am ignorant, but what is there to protest? It lost so the majority of Californians do not want it. I know people want gay marriage and equal rights stuff, but what can be done? The vote obviously shows that the majority do not want it.
EDIT: What I am getting at is: can you protest the result of a vote/election and get anything changed?

You can protest it and make politicians realize that a lot of people do care. It's a marriage equality protest. There's a good chance that Prop 8 is going to get overturned in court. There's a reason why a majority of the population should not be allowed to be civil rights decisions for a minority group.

Well, because of all the protests - the city and county of San Francisco, the counties of San Mateo and Santa Clara, and the city and county of Los Angeles have all joined a bunch of gay and lesbian groups in asking the Supreme Court of California to look at Proposition 8 and determine its legality. The Supreme Court of California has agreed to look at it. I have a feeling it will get struck down.
