Yesterday, Donruss, in what is clearly an effort to do its own part to boost this economy, released a statement informing the public that is has artificially (though by mistake, as Donruss states below) created a market for someone you very likely have not heard of.Â* But the hype that is certain to follow will make sure that you know just who Wade Miley is.
<a href="http://www.donruss.com/dspNewsDetail.cfm?nid=418">Donruss'</a> statement posted on its website is as follows:
<blockquote>Due to a production error at the time of pack-out, some 31 copies of a Wade Miley card mistakenly were inserted into packs of 2008 Playoff Prime Cuts Baseball.
Donruss officials believed they had a deal with Miley during the production cycle of Prime Cuts, but when it became apparent Miley was exclusive property of another manufacturer, Donruss pulled Miley cards before pack-out. <em>"These few just slipped by,"</em> a Donruss representative said. <em>"It's an honest mistake, and one we regret."</em>
There are no Miley autograph redemption cards.</blockquote>
Who is this other manufacturer?Â* It's none other than Razor, the company that had everybody talking earlier this Summer when it signed draft pick after draft pick to exclusive deals, including #1 draft pick Tim Beckham.
Even if Miley (what an unfortunate name) doesn't pan out, a short print like this that is due to a corrected production error is certain to create a market hype not unsimilar to that of Alex Gordon's 2006 Topps Rookie Card which was pulled by Topps for violating the then-new MLB policy regarding rookie cards.Â* While Gordon was a much more touted prospect than Miley, the estimated print run on that card was round 100.
So, if you've busted this product already, start rifling through your rookies.Â* If you're a huge Wade Miley fan (I know you're out there), be prepared to shell out big to compete with others looking to chase yet another production error short print rookie.
