STAMFORD, Conn., June 25, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment was informed today by authorities in Fayetteville County, Ga., that WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son were found dead in their home. Authorities are investigating, but no other details are available at this time.

Instead of its announced programming for tonight on USA Network, WWE will air a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit.

Chris was beloved among his fellow Superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability. He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and towards his fans. This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss.

WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

Oh man, that's awful. I hope it wasn't either.

I'm not really up on wrestling, but even I've heard of him. Very sorry to hear about it.

I couldn't believe it when i heard the horrible news. I watched him wrestle many times and he was such a hardworking entertaining individual. The latest news is that it was a double murder suicide. He will be truly missed.
RIP Chris, Nancy & Daniel Benoit

Vince faked his death, limo blew up a few weeks ago.

what vince thing?

A few weeks ago they showed Vince getting into a limo...then the limo exploding. WWE played out the angle on their web site and other shows pretty hard. Some fans bought it hook, line, and sinker. The episode of Raw last night was supposed to be, I think, the culmination of the whole story line.

now im not condoning steroids but i would consider it to be pretty disgusting to use this to make some anti-steroidal commentary

Investigators found anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscle man nicknamed "The Canadian Crippler" was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage."

I'm still betting that steriods had some part in it. Also, evidentally, his wife filed for divorce in 2003, but they reconciled.

Sadly, no one will ever know why.

This whole thing is just horrible.

steroids may have something to do with it, but they do not make you do stuff, it is not a mind control drug. He is a low life murderer no matter what may of "caused" it when you kill your wife and child you are the lowest form of trash their is.

They didn't know what happened when they made that decision. They were devastated when they heard the news...and probably made the best decision they could under the circumstances. They obviously would have done it differently if the show was tonight.

What little wrestling I watched I liked the guy. Seemed to be a "good guy" most of the time and was fun to watch. But, after finding out about him killing his boy I have lost ALL repsect for him. I have a son as well and I cannot even fathom hurting him in the least amount let alone killing him. *sigh* I dunno.. Im done with this...

This reply has SO much ignorance in it, I just might drown from it.

Seriously...if you had ANY thought of your own vs going with whats been said already, anyone with smarts would realize that the time that WWE aired the tribute was done before there were any details released relating to a murder/suicide.:ban:

As for other replies in regards to him being lowlife scum, murderer etc. I wont knock that at all.

My opinion is that Ill never understand what his state of mind was that made him crack and do all of that and I certainly wont be one to judge a man's life on one bad incident.

Keep in mind that what details were given out were done so less than 24hrs of this situation blowing up.

You have to be one ate up, crazy SOB to be able to will yourself into killing anyone.....let alone your little boy and wife, by means of suffocation. They say that guns and knives have allowed us to kill one another because it makes the gut feeling that everyone encounters on some psychological level go away. To be able to do something like that with your own two hands and continue to do it when you know a loved one is struggling for their life is beyond any level of ordinary comprehension for me and I'm sure most other people. What a crazy asshole.

this is a little more than a bad incidient. People put this guy on a pedestal because he is famous, he probably had a lot of issues that were compounded by the use of steroids, painkillers and god know's what else, but at the end of the day he strangled his wife and child, which is deliberate cold blooded murder. I mean it was pretty easy to see from the details that were leaked that this was not going to be pretty. I mean as soon as I saw the post I knew it was some kind of murder/suicide thing, (as you can go back and see from Jaymix's post) and once they said that no guns were used (which was before the WWE Special) it was an almost forgone conclusion that Benoit was the guilty culprit. Now I do not think the WWE acted wrongly in what they did, but at the same time you could have seen this was a definite possibility. This makes Benoit 100X worse than OJ Simpson in my book.

Pro wrestler Chris Benoit apparently was pumping human-growth hormone into his 7-year-old son in the weeks before he killed his wife, the boy and himself at their suburban Atlanta home while consumed by “roid rage,” a prosecutor said yesterday.

Fayette County, Ga., District Attorney Scott Ballard said Daniel Benoit had needle marks on his arm. Ballard said he believed the boy had been given growth hormone because his parents considered the boy undersized.

“The boy was very small, even dwarfed,” Ballard said.

WTF?????

just because they were dead did not immediately incriminate him, you act as if nobody that was strong ever got murdered before

I hate to disagree with you, but this is one reason to not put someone (especially a professional wrestler) on a pedestal, they are just a step above side show carnies... it is a rough life on the road filled for many with drug abuse and rough living. I cannot believe anyone would try to be an apologist for a guy that murdered his wife and child. If Drew Brees or Tim Rattay did this, I would not defend them, I would be utterly disgusted by them.

Chris Benoit did something truly hideous.

I think I read that his kid had some sort of disease that made him undersized. I took (by request and under supervision of doctor) testosterone and HGH and am very glad I did so. I had some big issues. So it is not necessarily that it was an awful thing that he was taking those drugs.

As to those who asked about his son having a disease that made him small....

"In the days before the killings, Benoit and his wife argued over whether he should stay home more to take care of their mentally retarded 7-year-old son, according to an attorney for the WWE wrestling league.

The child had a rare medical condition called Fragile X Syndrome, an inherited form of mental retardation often accompanied by autism."
