View Full Version : Question on mailing via USPS

In the past, I've found that the most inexpensive way to send cards securely was to send cards via 1st class in a bubble mailer, with the bubble mailer bulked up to at least 3/4" to qualify for delivery confirmation. Is this still the case with the new USPS rules? Or is there a new preferred method?

ready for the catch 22? Delivery confirmation is only good for packages over 3/4 inch right? Well now, anything 3/4 inch thick or bigger is considered a parcel, not an envelope and subject to higher rates. Less than 3/4 inch and it's a large envelope.

My post man told me that anything that is a bubblemailer regardless of the size is now a parcel. No more letter rates for small bubble mailers he said. It now costs about $1.87 to ship one card with D.C. not counting the supplies. I pack everything real well, so I've started charging 3.25-4.00 depending on the item.

I think you really need to go $3 minimum just to cover your costs and give you a few cents extra

Ouch, so if want to send in a bubble mailer or want DC, then you must pay parcel rates. So the only inexpensive option is a plain envelope with no DC? Not good.

that isn't entirely accurate. I send two bubble mailers 2 days ago. 1 was over 3/4 inch. Cost: 1.31. One was under 3/4 inch. Cost: .80

Did they say anything about whether the package needed to be over 3/4 inch in thickness to qualify for DC? Or has that requirement now been waived with the new rules?

Yeah, I used to go $3 which was admittedly a little high, but $3.50 now doesn't even cover me all the time.

nope, you still need it to be 3/4 inch for DC. Now you see the catch 22?

I've heard that just because they let it through at the window, doesn't mean it won't be delivered with postage due ... The real kicker has to do when you send stuff overseas. It now costs about $5 shipping to send to the UK without D.C. for some reason if you add D.C. it now costs $16?!? It was really confusing how he said it, so I just shipped it without D.C. or insurance and am hoping I won't have to give a $150 refund!

I sell larger lots of 50-100 cards from time to time on eBay and I lost money on shipping the last few out.
